Casabuena Cultural Productions launched its film program in July of 2013. The first short films it produced were screen adaptations of Shel Silverstein’s One Act Plays SMILE and BUS STOP as well as poems from Uncle Shelby’s ABZ’s. Local Professional Actors recorded the voice overs for the ABZs and then youth performers starred in the ABZ shorts. BUS STOP and SMILE were shot at locations surrounding Mt. Airy.
In the summer of 2014 CCP entered a team in the Philadelphia 48 Hour Film Project in August and were nominated for FIVE Awards- including Best Cast, Best Actress (Carol Enoch), Best Special Effects, and Best Use of Prop. And we WON the award for BEST 48 Hour GENRE FILM, for our DARK COMEDY – BROS & ARROWS (Watch it HERE). We were also one of 4 teams invited to participate in the secondary competition for New Amsterdam Vodka where the local prize was $1000. In the 2016 48 Hour Film Project, we won Honorable Mention for Best Original Score and Best Youth Performer (Lia Taylor) for our Coming of Age Film- DAY.
